STAVROULA KEFALA

Stavroula Kefala is Assistant Professor in Translation Studies at the Department of English Language and Literature, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She holds a PhD in Translation from the NKUA and an MA in European Policy, Politics and Society from the University of Bath, Sciences Po Paris, and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She is also a graduate of the National School of Public Administration in Greece, specialising in Tourism Economy and Development.

Her research focuses on linguistic and sociolinguistic approaches to translation, discourse analysis, and translation theory and practice, with particular emphasis on tourism discourse, intercultural communication, and the construction of identity. Her work brings together linguistics, translation and public policy.

She served as Director for Research and Director-General for Tourism Policy at the Greek Ministry of Tourism where she led research and evidence-based initiatives on tourism intelligence, sustainable tourism development and climate change, while representing Greek positions in high-level international events and organisations, including UN Tourism, the OECD and the European Commission.

She has taught undergraduate and postgraduate courses at NKUA and the Hellenic Open University. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, and she has presented her research at numerous national and international academic conferences.
