The point about being at a University—as opposed to secondary education—is to allow for a cultural as well as academic education that will lead to a well-rounded personality. So, besides work, being a student allows you (easier) access to various forms of extracurricular activities to counter routine, learn new skills, and hone your talents. Taking part in the various excursions, festivals and trips organized by various student groups or agencies. However, be aware: the University does not monitor those trips, so choose carefully in order to avoid disappointments! More information on such events can be found also on www.fititis.gr, a site on student life.

Joining the various European student/youth networks such as AEGEE, AIESEC, SAFIA. For information, check the Geniki Grammateia Neas Genias (European program “Neolaia”) and the Office of European Programs at our University.

Touring Europe at greatly reduced prices with the International Student Identity Card. For information, see www.europeanrailguide.com/railpasses, www.interrailnet.com and www.robissa.gr.

Joining a Non-Governmental Organization or volunteering your services in various social programs for young adults. Besides WWF, Greenpeace, Unicef, Aktouros, Silva or the Red Cross, there are the student Blood Donor organizations of Aimopetalio and Floga that are truly worth your while! There are also programs for “alternative” vacation plans, such as protecting endangered marine species, working with cultural organizations to sustain traditional communities, etc.
