THE UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS COORDINATES THE EUROPEAN CIVIS OPEN LAB PROGRAM “COMBATING HEALTH MISINFORMATION”

The University of Athens coordinates the European CIVIS Open Lab program “Combating Health Misinformation”

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens announces its participation in the European CIVIS Open Lab program "Combating Health Misinformation," in collaboration with Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Bucharest. The scientific coordinator of the project on behalf of the University of Athens is Professor Flora Malamateniou (Department of Nursing), in collaboration with faculty members and teaching assistants from the Department of Nursing and the Department of Communication and Media.

The program, which starts in September 2025 and ends in July 2026, aims to fight misinformation on health issues and boost the credibility of scientific knowledge in society. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and the active participation of academics, researchers, students, and social actors, the following will be developed:

·       a digital guide with best practices,

·       a thematic website with reliable information,

·       podcasts and newsletters,

·       educational tools, such as a mobile app and digital game for students and young people.

This action focuses on cultivating critical thinking, strengthening digital literacy and digital literacy in health issues and protecting public health, with an emphasis, among others, on young people, students, health professionals, and patients.

With the implementation of this program, the University of Athens further strengthens its role in international academic cooperation and promotes the University as a pillar of social responsibility and scientific credibility.
