CALL FOR EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – PARTICIPATION IN THE PHILIP C. JESSUP INTERNATIONAL LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2026-REMINDER
Students of the Faculty of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens are invited to participate in the oldest, largest and most emblematic international moot court competition, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition 2026, organized under the auspices of the International Law Students Association and the world-renowned law firm White & Case LLP.
Interested students are requested to send an email to jessupathens2026@gmail.com, no later than Friday, September 19, 2025. The subject line of the email should read: “Jessup Application 2026_Student’s Name”, and a complete CV must be attached.
Following the evaluation of applications, the next stage of the selection process will take place on Thursday, September 25, 2025, in the form of interviews with the candidates. Applicants who have already submitted their CVs will receive further information about this stage in the coming days.
Preparation for the competition will start in October 2025, after the end of the examination period. The national rounds of the competition will take place in spring 2026, while the international rounds will take place in Washington, D.C., USA, from 28 March to 4 April 2026. Participation in the international rounds is contingent upon the team’s qualification.
It is noted that the competition constitutes a simulation of the process of adjudicating an international dispute before the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, the International Court of Justice in The Hague. The Athens Law School has achieved significant distinctions in recent years, securing prominent positions in the final rankings.
This year’s Problem will deal with the following issues: (1) Who has the right to intervene in proceedings before the International Court of Justice? (2) What are the rights of indigenous peoples relating to rare earth minerals found in their land? (3) What are “the general principles of law recognized by civilized nations”? and (4) When is a state immune from the domestic jurisdiction of another state when it has caused economic harm to citizens of that state?
